My Painting of Mount Yamnuska in the Canadian Rockies, showing the South face of the mountain. Mount Yamnuska is located at the Eastern edge of the Canadian Rocky mountains, where the landscapes collide and the mountains meet the prairies. Where Landscapes Collide is actually the title of this painting. It is the first mountain to the north travelling west towards the mountains from Calgary along the Trans Canada highway.
I have spent a lot of time climbing on this face over the years! Like most climbers of my generation from this area, this is where we learned to rock climb. I have done two paintings of this mountain, but when doing research for this page I realized that I have virtually no photographs of it. All the sketches for the paintings were done from memory. I lived just around the corner from this mountain for about 30 years and saw it or walked through the forests beneath it on a daily basis.
